Book Review: The Surprising Secrets of Highly Happy Marriages by Shaunti Feldhahn

What makes The Secret of Highly Happy Marriages stand out from other marriage books?  The answer is Shaunti Feldhahn's unique survey system.  She's not just a marriage counselor doling out one-size-fits-all advice.  As a matter of fact, she's not a marriage counselor at all.  She presents results from surveys given to married couples all over the country, in all different stages and walks of life.  Each couple was asked if their marriage was "highly happy," "mostly happy' or "not happy at all."  Then, the couples were asked questions about themselves and their spouse and things about their responses to one another, feelings about events in their lives and reactions to problems.  Many of the highly happy couples responded in the same ways.  Ms. Feldhahn uses their answers to inspire every married couple and convince us that we can be highly happy in marriage.
If  you consider  yourself to be in a happy marriage you will probably find that you do most the things in this book already, whether consciously or subconsciously.  I did find a few areas in my own life that needed work, though!  It is helpful to know that  you're not alone in the things that bother you or the struggles you have in marriage.  It is interesting to see the results of the surveys, and to find out what makes your spouse happy and not so happy.  The tips and advice are great, and if followed will probably make a difference in your marriage.
If you'd like some advice on how to keep your happy marriage happy, or make your mostly happy marriage highly happy, give this book a try.  It will take effort, but you can be happily married!

Happy Reading! (and marriage)

I received a copy of this book through the Blogging for Books program in exchange for this review.
